Health benefits of a walk-in bath

Having a bath to make you feel better is not a new idea. Thermal waters have long been sought by those wishing to ease the pain of arthritis and improve circulation. The attraction of being clean and warm is strong, and floating, gravity-free, has been found to be so popular that the ‘flotarium’ is now a marketable product.

'Hydrotherapy can accomplish many of the same therapeutic goals as massage techniques do. Like massage, hydrotherapy can relieve discomfort and pain, stimulate the flow of blood and lymph, make connective tissue easier to stretch, and soothe many aches, pains and injuries.' ('Modern Hydrotherapy for Massage Therapists' by Marybetts Sinclair, pub Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2007)

Our walk-in baths, when used with the spa bubbles option, can achieve many of the same benefits as a good massage:

  • Increase blood and lymph circulation and may help remove excess fluid/ swelling
  • Reduce muscle tension and pain
  • Speed recovery of muscles from exercise
  • Increase mobility
Massage of the elderly can help alleviate the isolation and loneliness many older people feel. It can revitalise a bond with others and re-affirm self-esteem. The gentle massage and range of motion techniques can increase circulation, mobilise the joints and improve skin condition. It may also lower blood pressure, reduce oedema and relieve tension headaches. (from http://www.massagenewzealand.org.nz/answers/massage-techniques/)

Our walk-in baths may also assist in the following areas:

  • Help relieve associated muscular tension and encourages general relaxation
  • Injury rehabilitation
  • Speed recovery from injury and regaining full range of movement
  • Post-operative care
  • Help reduce recovery period and speed up elimination of anaesthetic, as well as reducing pain and stiffness associated with bedrest
  • Terminal illness
  • Chronic pain
  • Care of the disabled
